Shout Factory Releasing Stephen King’s Graveyard Shift Blu-ray

Stephen King is the master of horror, but his films tend to be hit or miss. Graveyard Shift is a great adaptation. “Graveyard Shift” is a short story by Stephen King, first published in the October 1970 issue of Cavalier magazine, and later collected in King’s 1978 collection Night Shift. The film is directed by Ralph S. Singleton and stars David Andrews, Kelly Wolf and Stephen Macht. Shout Factory is releasing the Blu-ray on July 28th.

Synopsis

Workers clock in for their shift … and clock out for good!

From master storyteller Stephen King (Pet Sematary) comes his most terror-filled tale yet …

When an abandoned textile mill is reopened, several employees meet mysterious deaths. The link between the killings is the hour: all occurred between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. – the Graveyard Shift. The sadistic mill foreman has chosen a group to clean up the mill’s rat-infested basement. But what the workers find is a subterranean maze of tunnels leading to the cemetery – and an unimaginable horror that comes alive in the dead of night …

Elisabeth Moss Is Legendary Horror Author Shirley Jackson In Shirley

Neon acquired the rights to Josephine Decker’s Shirley after its premiere at Sundance earlier this year. Shirley won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Auteur Filmmaking in Park City. Elisabeth Moss (The Invisible Man) stars as Shirley Jackson, the legendary horror author who penned The Haunting of Hill House. Sarah Gubbins penned the script for the film, based on Susan Scarf Merrell’s 2015 novel. It hits VOD and digital on June 5.

Synopsis

Shirley is set in the mid-1960s and centers on Rose (Odessa Young) and Fred (Logan Lerman), a couple that moves to a small Vermont college town in pursuit of a job for Fred as an assistant professor of literature. They receive an offer for free room and board from professor Stanley Hyman (Michael Stuhlbarg), as long as Rose agrees to spend time cleaning up the home and looking after his wife, acclaimed horror author Shirley Jackson (Moss). The ensuing psycho-drama becomes the inspiration for Jackson’s next work.

Mike Flanagan Adapting Stephen King’s Revival

Stephen King’s Revival (2014) is his latest book coming to the big screen.

Warner Bros., the studio behind King’s IT franchise, is developing the film. Mike Flanagan is on board to adapt the script with an option to direct. Trevor Macy, who teamed with Flanagan on the 2019 adaptation of King’s Doctor Sleep, will produce through Intrepid Pictures.

Revival spans five decades, opening in a small New England town, where a charismatic minister meets a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. When tragedy strikes the boy’s family, the preacher mocks all religious belief, and is banished. The boy has become a musical nomad and a heroin addict by the time the two meet again.

Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy teamed up for the Netflix adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Gerald’s Game. The two also collaborated on the Netflix series of The Haunting of Hill House. Warner Bros. executive Kevin McCormick is overseeing Revival for the studio.

Josh Malerman Surprises With Book Cover Reveal

Josh Malerman, Bestselling author of Bird Box, is set to release Goblin through Del Rey Books/Penguin Random House in 2021. Goblin was originally published as a limited edition hardcover through Earthling Publications as part of their Earthling Halloween Series.

Synopsis

A MAN IN SLICES A young man wants to prove to his long-distance girlfriend that they have “legendary love,” better than Vincent van Gogh, so he sends her more than just his ear.

KAMP A man horrified of encountering a ghost sets up a series of “ghost traps” all over his apartment, desperate to catch one before it can sneak up on him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HUNTER! Big game hunter Neal Nash leaves his own meat-themed birthday bash to go hunting for Goblin’s hallowed (and protected) Great Owl. But the North Woods are unkind at night.

PRESTO In the pages of Presto magazine, a young boy reads that his favorite magician, Roman Emperor, is coming to town. Problem is, Pete doesn’t know that Emperor’s magic is real, and his latest trick involves audience participation… from a little boy volunteer.

A MIX-UP AT THE ZOO Dirk Rogers works at both the Goblin Slaughterhouse and the Goblin Zoo, but the workload is really getting to him. Will he be able to separate the two jobs on the night he finally breaks down, or will the slaughterhouse and the zoo overlap in his cracked, dark mind?

THE HEDGES A young girl finally reaches the end of Goblin’s biggest tourist attraction, The Hedges. But what she finds there sparks a mad chase between the owner of the Hedges and the Goblin Police, through the streets of the rainy city and into the terrible North Woods.

Welcome to the town of Goblin. May your night there be wet with rain, breathless with adventure, and filled with fright…

Josh Malerman is known for Bird Box, but he has written some other great books as well. While you are waiting for the Goblin release, you should check out the following books:

Thir13en Ghosts Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Haunts In July

THIR13EN GHOSTS filled my horror heart with so much terror. I’ve never seen a movie quite like this one before. He takes the haunted house trope and turns it on its head. The gore-filled special effects looked all too real. The acting is phenomenal. This movie will look great on Blu-ray. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. THIR13EN GHOSTS is set to release on July 28th. You can pre-order your copy from Shout Factory.

Synopsis

“A nightmare come true for fans of seriously scary movies!” – Joe Leydon, San Francisco Examiner

What a house! It’s all steel and glass and elegance – and it all belongs to Arthur Kriticos and his family as an unexpected inheritance. You could say it’s their dream home. Especially if the dreams are nightmares.

Awesome ectoplasmic specters populate Thirteen Ghosts, an effects-rampant remake of the 1960 William Castle haunted-house film from producers Gilbert Adler, Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis, who conjured up the equally terrorific House On Haunted Hill (1999). Tony Shalhoub leads a cast that includes Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, Rah Digga and F. Murray Abraham. The house itself is a design marvel and a mysterious puzzle-cube whose eerie corridors, sliding walls, spinning floors and phantasmic fiends may allow no escape.

Ghost Ship Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Sets Sail In August

Ghost Ship was first released back in 2002. The film went big on the haunted house tropes, but given that it’s on an ocean liner, it’s kind of refreshing. It was released close to Halloween, ramping up the fright factor a bit. There are ghosts galore and plenty of gore. The Blu-ray Collector’s Edition sails in August 18th. You can pre-order your copy here.

Synopsis

“One of the Scariest, Most Original Horror Movies in Years.” – Rob Blackwelder, San Francisco Examiner

Finders keepers. Any abandoned ship floating in international waters can be claimed and towed to port by whomever is fortunate enough to find it. Or, in the case of one team of salvage experts, unfortunate enough.

In this stylish, effects-packed chiller from Dark Castle Entertainment, salvagers trained for any situation imaginable come face to horrifying face with the unimaginable after boarding a derelict luxury liner. Julianna Margulies, Gabriel Byrne, Ron Eldard and Isaiah Washington are among the hands on deck who’ll confront a seafaring collector of souls. Steve Beck (Thirteen Ghosts) directs this frightful chiller.

Tales From The Darkside Gets Collector’s Edition Blu-ray

Tales From The Darkside was originally released in 1990. It’s a comedy horror anthology film directed by John Harrison, and based on the anthology television series Tales from the Darkside. The first time I watch this film it scared the hell out of me. All four ghoulish fables are filled with horrors that will satisfy any horror fan. The cover art alone will make you want to buy this Collector’s Edition Blu-ray. The release has been pushed back to August 11th. You can pre-order a copy at Scream Factory.

Synopsis

Brace yourself for some KILLER stories.

From the clever and creepy minds of Stephen King (Pet Sematary), Michael McDowell (Beetlejuice), George A. Romero (Dawn Of The Dead) and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (creator of Sherlock Holmes), comes an all-star anthology of horror directed by John Harrison.

To keep from being eaten by a modern-day witch (Deborah Harry, Videodrome), a young paperboy weaves three twisted stories to distract her. In “Lot 249,” a vengeful college student (Steve Buscemi, Fargo) resuscitates an evil mummy to teach unsuspecting student bodies (Julianne Moore, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Christian Slater, Mr. Robot) a lesson in terror. Then, “Cat From Hell” is a furry black feline who cannot be killed … he may have nine lives, but those who cross his path are not so lucky. Finally, in “Lover’s Vow,” a stone gargoyle comes to life … to commit murder. In this classic cult favorite, fear comes in threes.

Arrow Video is releasing Lee Min-jae’s Zombie For Sale on June 7th. You can pre-order a copy here.

Synopsis

An infectiously funny slice of modern Korean cinema where Train to BusanThe Quiet Family and Warm Bodies collide to create a memorable rom-zom-com from first time director Lee Min-jae.

When the illegal human experiments of Korea’s biggest Pharmaceutical company go wrong, one of their “undead” test subjects escapes and ends up in a shabby gas station owned by the Park family – a band of misfits spanning three generations who hustle passers-by to make ends meet. When the Park family uncover their undead visitor, he bites the head of their household, who instead of transforming into an undead ghoul becomes revitalised and full of life! The family then hatch a plan to exploit this unexpected fountain of youth, allowing locals to pay to be bitten too, until things go wrong…

With a cabbage-munching zombie who prefers ketchup over blood, and a dysfunctional family that gives the Kim family of Parasite a run for their money, Zombie for Sale will warm the deadest of hearts and breathe some new life into the zombie genre.
